GPHG 2023 - Nominations and World tour

The 850 members of the GPHG Academy rendered their verdict this summer.

Using digital means and under notarial supervision, they nominated 90 timepieces. These 84 watches and 6 clocks are in the running to win one of the 20 prizes at this 23rd edition of the GPHG, including the prestigious “Aiguille d’Or” Grand Prix best-in-show award. Each year, a series of exhibitions brings together the nominated watches prior to the awards ceremony – followed by showings of the competition winners – for an international audience of enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike. Organised in collaboration with local partners, these exhibitions contribute to the promotion of watchmaking culture around the world, while also offering talks, discussions, workshops as well as other public and private events.

The 84 watches shortlisted this year by our Academy will be exhibited:

Macao: 25 and 26 September

Hong Kong: 28 September to 1 October as part of the new Timeless Watch Week

Kuala Lumpur: 4 to 8 October in partnership with The Hour Glass

New York: 18 to 22 October with Watches of Switzerland

Geneva: 25 October to 12 November at the Musée Rath, in partnership with the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire.

The latter will be presenting – alongside the 90 GPHG nominated timepieces – a foray into the origins of watchmaking through  the “Hand & Tool” exhibition. Visitors will also be able to take part in guided tours, talks, games and introductory watchmaking workshops (Mediation program)

The 23rd GPHG awards ceremony will be held on 9 November 2023 at the Théâtre du Léman in Geneva. The prize-winners will be determined by the 30-person jury that will meet behind closed doors a few days prior to the ceremony, along with a second vote by the Academy.

After the ceremony, the winning timepieces of the 2023 edition will be presented from 15 to 20 November 2023 as part of Dubai Watch Week, then at the Kunsthaus in Zurich from 1 to 3 December in partnership with Kaleido Private Bank.

About the GPHG Academy
Created in 2020, the GPHG Academy is made up of several hundred members representing significant stakeholders in the main sectors linked to the watch industry, divided into colleges and forming a vast worldwide network of ambassadors. Academy members take part in the various stages of the timepiece selection process, proposing models for the competition in the spring of each year, before designating the nominees among the timepieces entered in the competition by the brands during the summer and then taking part alongside the Jury in the final autumn vote to determine the winners of that edition.

About the GPHG
The Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) was created in 2001 and has been run by a public interest foundation since 2011. For more than 20 years, it has pursued its mission of showcasing the international art of watchmaking with the support of its public and private partners, notably its principal partner FGP Swiss & Alps, backed by the participation of all those involved in the industry.
